Fractional CFO services for owner-operators of $5–50M private companies.
CPA-credentialed strategic finance, built on 47 years of operator experience — including roles as COO of a $75M multinational and CFO of a $110M industrial contractor.
For the decisions where the numbers actually matter — and need to be trusted.
Who I work with
You're the owner or CEO
Your company does $5 to $50M in revenue. You do not have a full time CFO and are not ready to hire one, but you are starting to feel it. Decisions take longer, the numbers are not fully trusted, and pricing, margins, and cash flow are less clear than they should be. You are operating without a financial counterpart in the room.
You need finance leadership not more reporting
You already have a controller or bookkeeper, but no one who can sit with the bank, the board, or a buyer and speak with authority. You need someone who can pressure test assumptions before decisions are made and turn numbers into direction. At this stage the gap is not accounting. It is judgment.
You want someone who has actually operated
Most fractional CFOs come from accounting. I come from operating. I have carried payroll, managed teams, and made decisions where the outcome affected more than the spreadsheet. Different problems. Different perspectives.
What I do
Three service lines for owner-operators of $5–50M private companies.
Fractional CFO
Ongoing finance leadership for $5 to $50M private companies, focused on clarity around pricing, margins, and cash flow. Support in decisions where the outcome is not obvious and fewer surprises when it counts. At this level the issue is not data. It is what you do with it.
Strategic Advisory
Project based support for decisions without a clear playbook, including pricing, capital structure, M & A, and wind down scenarios. Clear insight into what the numbers say, what they do not, and what happens if you get it wrong.
Expert Witness & Litigation Support
Damages analysis, forensic accounting, and reporting for commercial litigation. Work that is clear, defensible, and prepared for scrutiny and deposition. Because in this context close enough does not hold up.
Recent work
Names anonymized. Numbers real.
Manufacturing Turnaround
Generator rental division operating at break even with unclear margins. Identified throughput constraints and pricing gaps, then reworked the pricing model and operating flow. Result was a business that understood where its margin was coming from and how to protect it.
Commercial Litigation
Authored a damages report quantifying $2.37M in losses across four categories in an acquisition dispute. Work was structured to withstand scrutiny and held up through deposition. Focus was on separating narrative from defensible financial fact.
Multi-Year CFO Engagement
Ongoing fractional CFO role for a Detroit-based construction company during a period of growth and transition. Led financial oversight, supported hiring decisions, and brought structure to planning and reporting. Result was faster decisions with clearer financial grounding.
Track Record
Decades of operating depth, board service, and capital markets experience.
Credentials & Education
Audit Committee Financial Expert with CPA designation in Ohio since 1979. Career began at Deloitte and included international assignments in Germany and France, building a foundation in audit, reporting, and cross border finance.
Operating Roles
Former COO of Stahl's Inc., a $75M multinational manufacturer, and former CFO of Gallagher Kaiser Corp., a $110M industrial contractor. Also served as CFO and Board Chairman of ZIVO Bioscience, a publicly held company. Experience includes leading teams, managing cash and operations, and making decisions where financial outcomes directly impacted the business.
Board & Transactions
Past Board Director of Coherix, where I served as Audit Committee Chair. Experience includes a $35M IPO, a $180M public debt offering, and cross border M & A across Italy, the UK, Germany, China, Japan, and the Philippines. Work spans capital markets, governance, and complex transactions.

What an AI-Augmented CFO Practice Actually Looks Like
Where AI helps. Where it doesn't. Tools can improve speed and visibility, but they do not replace judgment. The value is not in generating more data. It is in knowing which signals matter and how to act on them.
The 13-Week Cash Flow Forecast — A Field Manual for Owner-Operators
One of the most practical tools in private company finance, and one of the least used. When built properly it gives early visibility into pressure points and forces decisions before they become problems.
When the Damages Number Won't Hold — Notes from a First Deposition
In litigation the number is only as strong as the assumptions behind it. Work that holds up is clear, defensible, and built with the expectation that it will be challenged. Anything less does not survive scrutiny.
